Rite of Sacred Fire

In a cave dug out specifically for this purpose on the sept, a fire burns in both the physical realm and the penumbra. The base of the fire consists of four logs that point in the cardinal directions. Within the warmth of the fire's reach, it is easier to commune and deal with spirits.

It was ignited near the end of the night that the sept positions were filled and the sept received its totem and its name (Game 2), and is being respectfully tended by various members of the sept, including Zolzaya. (If your PC would be seen doing so, feel free to say as a comment on this thread... although also remember to post as much in each of your Downtime Submission - it does not take a DT action to help, it merely needs to be noted!)

Mechanics information: All Mystic Rites or other Rites dealing with spirits (such as Contrition) have their difficulty lowered by two within the area where the flame's heat can be felt (the size of a medium sized room/cavern). At the Storyteller's option, other spirit dealings may go more smoothly, for the building of the fire indicates a respect for the old traditions and knowledge of the ancient pacts between spirit and Garou.

The sacred fire lasts for as long as it is tended with sanctified materials; it is considered honorable to maintain one and many septs maintain the fire for a year at a stretch, while others have kept theirs burning for years or even generations.

The cave (and the shrine built into the side of the mountain around the entrance) is Masterwork at Crafts 6 to allow for maximum warmth without build up of toxic gases.

Aristeides can be found either sleeping by, working on crafts near, or tending to this fire while he is residing at the caern and it is night time.

As a (slightly temporally inaccurate) magoi Artazusta sees a lot of overlap between the garou rite of sacred fire and the yasna relating to atar, so maintaining the fire is important to him. He will perform rites of cleansing on fuel, feed the fire, and of course make himself available to teach or assist anyone who wants to participate in its maintenance.

As a devotee of Hestia, Valliant Restraint spends time tending the fire when she is able, learning to bless the appropriate materials from her packmate Artazustra, and using her goddess-given blessings to help keep the flame strong and healthy. She is also frequently found curled up in Lupus enjoying the warmth when she sleeps on the sept instead of in her pack's territory.

Elissa, also a devotee of Hestia, spends a bit of time tending to the fire. They can be seen stopping by at least once a day to bow their head seemingly in prayer if nothing else.

Every Thursday in which Stelios is on Dokos he will help tend to the "Rite of Sacred Fire" placed in the caves at the sept. He will continue to do this until further notice.

When the stars are right, Polyphanes visits the shrine and sacred fire to string bells, feathers, beads, and glossy potshards -- weaving them to dance and sing in the wind. (They are also very fun to play with.) He spends much of his time here in lupus form.
